How offline-first actually works
The driver app is a Progressive Web App — a web page your driver adds to their phone's home screen, where it behaves like a native app. Everything the driver does on a route is written to storage on the phone itself: the meter start and end, gallons delivered, tank percentages, a photo of the fill or the meter, and the customer's signature. None of that needs a network. When the phone regains service — mid-route, back at the shop, or after a restart — the queued tickets sync to the office automatically, in order, with no driver action required. Nothing is lost, even if the phone dies and reboots.
No App Store, no Apple fee
Because it is a web app, there is nothing to download from an App Store, no $99-a-year Apple developer fee, no review process, and no update your driver has to remember to install. You send a link; the driver taps "Add to Home Screen"; updates appear automatically. A new seasonal driver is productive in minutes on whatever phone they already carry.
What the driver captures
Meter start and end readings, gallons delivered — temperature-corrected to 60°F using the ASTM D1250 method when you bill net — tank level before and after, exception codes (no access, tank full, short delivery), driver notes, photos, and a signature. If a delivery is a run-out, the app flags the run-out event so the office knows a gas check may be required before relight.
Why it matters for the office
Because tickets sync clean and complete, the office is not re-keying paper at the end of the day or chasing a driver for a missing gallon count. A synced ticket immediately updates the customer's K-factor and next projected fill, and it is ready to become an invoice. The loop from truck to bill closes on its own.
Built for the phone your driver already owns
There is no company hardware to buy, provision, or replace when it gets dropped off a tailgate. The driver app runs on any reasonably modern iPhone or Android phone, in the browser the driver already uses, so a fill-in driver during a cold-snap surge is running deliveries the same morning you hand them the link. It is light on battery and light on data, because the heavy work happens on the phone and only compact tickets sync over the network. And because updates ship as a web release, every driver is always on the current version without an app-store update to chase — a real advantage when the update is a compliance change you need live across the whole fleet at once.
